Microchanneling and Microneedling are often used interchangeably, making it easy to confuse the two. Although they are similar procedures, there are distinct differences and unique benefits to each. In this blog, we’ll explain these differences, outline the benefits, and provide tips on how to prepare for your treatments.

What Is Microchanneling?

Microchanneling is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes small needles to create micro-injuries to the skin’s surface. This stimulates your body’s natural healing process that ultimately results in increased collagen and elastin production. Microchanneling addresses a variety of different skin issues including acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, rosacea and more.

This treatment usually only takes up to 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area that’s being treated and it requires minimal downtime. People can experience minor after effects, such as slight redness and swelling that often subsides within a day or two. Overall, microchanneling is a safe and effective way to treat your skin.

Microneedling Vs. Microchanneling: What’s The Difference?

While Microchanneling and Microneedling share similarities in their procedures, we want to highlight the differences between the two. Although these treatments have the same goal, Microchanneling offers increased benefits and can provide you with better results.

Microneedling involves using longer needles that penetrate deeper into the dermis. This procedure involves dragging the device across the face, which poses the risk of tearing the skin. On the other hand, Microchanneling uses smaller needles that only puncture the first layer of the dermis. This method uses a device that employs a stamping technique, avoiding the potential damage caused by dragging and making it a gentler option.

Highlighted Benefits:

  • Precision and Consistency: Microchanneling devices offer more controlled and uniform penetration compared to traditional microneedling tools, leading to more consistent results.
  • Reduced Downtime: Microchanneling generally causes less trauma to the skin, resulting in reduced redness and quicker recovery times.
  • Serum Infusion: Microchanneling often includes the application of potent serums during the treatment, enhancing the overall benefits.
  • Versatility: Suitable for all skin types and tones, Microchanneling can be customized to address a wide range of skin issues, making it a versatile option for everyone.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Although 2-3 more treatments are required, Microchanneling provides longer-lasting results and improved healing compared to Microneedling.

At Silver Mirror, we offer Procell Microchanneling in order to provide you with the highest-standard service. Procell utilizes a growth hormone serum to speed up the skin’s renewal process, resulting in accelerated cell turnover leaving you with brighter, healthier skin.

Explore Microchanneling Benefits:

Microchanneling is a go-to treatment for achieving healthy and beautiful skin. It offers a wide array of benefits and is sure to improve the following concerns that you’re experiencing:

Reduces the appearance of Acne Scars:

Microchanneling helps to break down scar tissue and stimulate collagen production, leading to smoother and more even skin texture.

Diminishes fine lines and wrinkles:

By promoting collagen and elastin production, microchanneling helps to plump up the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and providing you with a more youthful complexion.

Reduces the appearance of Hyperpigmentation, Rosacea and sun damage

Microchanneling encourages cell turnover and helps to fade dark spots, redness, and other forms of discoloration, resulting in a more even skin tone.

Improves skin texture and tone

The precise micro-injuries created during microchanneling promote cellular regeneration, resulting in smoother, softer, and brighter skin.

Minimizes enlarged pores

Microchanneling can help to unclog and shrink enlarged pores, leading to a smoother and more refined skin texture.

With these benefits, microchanneling is an effective solution for addressing various skin concerns and achieving a healthier, more youthful complexion.

How to Prepare for Microchanneling and What to Expect

Prior to your appointment, there are certain steps that are essential to follow in order to avoid any skin reactions and to improve the speed of recovery. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind before your appointment:

  • Avoid using any type of exfoliant on your face at least 5-7 days before your treatment. Exfoliation removes the top layer of skin cells and doing this right before your appointment can cause irritation and more severe skin reactions.
  • Limit your exposure to the sun at least 48 hours before your appointment. This will maximize your results and any negative skin effects after the treatment.
  • Avoid using topical retinoids as these can oftentimes cause irritation or peeling of the skin. Receiving Microchanneling after using a retinoid can worsen the after-effects and cause more pain.
  • Avoid using any anti-inflammatory medications. The natural process of Microchanneling requires inflammation of the skin, therefore taking anti-inflammatory medications will reduce the benefits you see from the treatment.
  • Stay away from any hair removal treatments or products. These can all irritate the skin which will cause increased discomfort during the procedure.

During treatment, the Microchanneling procedure can lead to  mild inflammation where some pain and tenderness occurs in the skin. This usually depends on the size of the needle, however, many Microchanneling specialists will apply a numbing cream beforehand, which helps prevent side effects of pain and stinging.

Post Treatment Effects And Microchanneling After Care:

Directly after the procedure, your skin may appear bright red and some peeling and flaking may occur. The redness will go away after 48 hours after the procedure, while peeling or flaking may take slightly longer to resolve. Additionally, it’s common to experience breakouts or bumps that can appear, but this doesn’t occur for everyone.

There are steps you can take to aid in healing and reduce the amount of time you see symptoms after the treatment. Here are the best things you can do post-Microchanneling:

  • For the first two weeks after the treatment, try to avoid excessive sun exposure and when you do go outside, make sure to apply a broad spectrum SPF of at least 30.
  • Ensure to wash your hands before touching your face to avoid any infection and to make sure your skin heals properly for 72 hours post treatment
  • Refrain from putting on makeup to let the skin heal properly and to reduce the risk of infection for 72 hours post treatment.
  • For 48 hours, avoid using exfoliants, retinols, Vitamin C. After two days have passed, consider incorporating these products back into your routine gradually to ensure your skin doesn’t have any reactions.

How Long Should You Wait Between Microchanneling Treatments?

Typically, it takes around 6 treatments of Microchanneling before you see the results and improvements you are looking for. We recommend that you leave around 2-4 weeks between treatments. This time varies depending on your goals, but this is important in order to allow your skin the time to heal and improve.
