Kristen is a Lead Esthetician at the Bryant Park, New York City location of Silver Mirror Facial Bar. Along with a formal education in aesthetics, her years of experience as a licensed esthetician helping those achieve healthy skin has given her a deep grasp of diverse skin types and treatments.

Silver Mirror Skincare products

If there is ever a time to be kind to your skin, it is now.

At 6 PM on a Wednesday, your shirt has coffee stains, and the dinner of your screaming toddler is in your hair. Your phone just buzzed – a calendar reminder: Monthly Facial – 7:15 PM.

(If you live in Washington, DC, great! Look up where to get a Silver Mirror facial. We’re open and ready to help!)

However, if you’re in NYC, you’re still waiting for the state to legally allow facials again. Your skin is crying for help.

We feel you. We miss you too! As facials near and dear to us in NYC remain on hold, your skincare does not have to stay stuck. The expert Silver Mirror skincare therapists have you covered.

REGULAR SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING
Cleansing
Our general rule of thumb when cleansing is to spend 60 – 90 seconds working the product into the skin. This allows active ingredients to penetrate deeply and thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, and makeup.

If your skin is absorbing a cleanser too quickly, this could be a sign of dehydration (something to discuss with your esthetician).

Exfoliation
We all know that the secret to glowing and healthy skin is regular exfoliation. Unfortunately, pore and blackhead extractions are difficult to perform on yourself. Acting as your own esthetician, you may create an affordable facial, but it can be dangerous without proper guidance. Consult with an esthetician when choosing an exfoliation product. My personal favorite is Santitas’ Gentle Refining Mask, a beautiful combination of AHA and Hyaluronic acid. It gently removes dead skin cells while keeping skin hydrated.

Toning
Toning prepares your skin for product absorption and rebalances the skin’s pH level after cleansing and exfoliating. Gentle enough for all skin types, Revision’s Soothing Facial Rinse is just as calming as it is hydrating.

Hydrate & Moisturize
Drink lots of water and generously apply your moisturizers and hydrating serums to your face, neck, and chest. Revision’s Hydrating Serum is heaven in a bottle! Don’t forget to show some love to the back of your excessively washed hands as well. Do not, I repeat, do not neglect your eyes while social distancing!

Are UV and Free Radical Protection still a thing?
Yes! The answer is yes! You need to apply antioxidant serums and SPF, even if you are mostly indoors. UV rays are still able to penetrate through windows. Antioxidants protect against free radical damage – caused by many factors other than the sun. On the Silver Mirror website, you’ll find a variety of sunscreens and antioxidant serums. My holy grail Vitamin C serum is iS Clinical’s Pro Heal Serum Advance+.

If you’re in DC, stop by for a summer facial (the best facial for this sunniest of seasons) to address many of these summer skincare issues, in addition to dehydration and other issues related to the heat.

Lift it – at-home
No Botox? No problem!

If fine lines are a major concern, we recommend investing in the beloved PureLift Face for at-home use. This noninvasive device combines electronic muscle stimulation and microcurrent technology to lift and tighten facial muscles. If you’ve ever experienced our Anti- Aging facial, then you understand how phenomenal this tool is.

Your skin will thank you for the extra TLC. We hope you found these tips helpful and are doing well. When the time comes, you deserve more than a good facial. You deserve the best facial in the world: a facial at Silver Mirror. We can’t wait to open our NYC doors to your beautiful face!
