Fall Skincare Tips

  1. Gentle Cleansing: To Prevent Dry Skin

As the temperature drops, avoid over-cleansing or cleansing too aggressively because this can strip your skin of its natural oils. Especially if you reside in NYC or DC, opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that cleans your skin without causing irritation. Make sure you use the best cleanser for your skin to ensure that you aren’t perpetuating any issues.

  1. Mindfully: Avoid Irritating Your Skin

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, but it’s important to not over-exfoliate. Since your skin will be dryer during the Fall months, exfoliating too frequently can cause irritation and dry skin. Choose a chemical exfoliant with AHAs or BHAs to promote cell turnover, giving you fresher skin. Limit exfoliation to 2 times a week to prevent excessive sensitivity or dryness.

  1. Sunscreen Always: Rain or Shine

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you can skip applying sunscreen. UV rays are present year-round and can still cause damage, even on cloudy days. That’s why it’s important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 because that will provide you with the best protection against the sun.

  1. Lip Care: For Soft and Hydrated Lips

Fall winds can leave your lips feeling dry and chapped. To keep your lips soft and to prevent them from getting chapped, use a lip balm with ingredients like shea butter or beeswax. Exfoliate your lips gently with a homemade sugar scrub or a soft toothbrush to remove flaky skin before applying your balm.

  1. Importance of Serums: Vitamin C & E

Introduce a serum with antioxidants like vitamin C or E into your routine. These ingredients work wonders in fading hyperpigmentation, promoting an even skin tone, and combating environmental stressors.

  1. Stay Hydrated: Inside and Out

Don’t forget that skincare starts from within. Drinking plenty of water is key in order to stay hydrated from within. In addition, try to drink herbal teas and eat fruits and veggies that have a high water content. Having hydrated skin helps to decrease signs of aging and keep a clear complexion.

  1. Layer Up Strategically: The Key to Effective Products

Treat your skincare routine as you do your wardrobe. Start with lighter products such as serums and toners first and add your heavier products like moisturizer or sunscreen last. This maximizes the product’s efficacy and ensures that your skin benefits from each.

  1. Sleep & Stress Management: Prioritize for Mental and Skin Health

Prioritizing sleep and managing stress not only helps your mental health but also your skin health. Sleep is essential for skin repair and regeneration, while managing stress can prevent breakouts and inflammation.

With the arrival of fall, what your skin requires to stay healthy changes. Embrace these fall skincare tips to shield your skin from the challenges of the season and enjoy the changing leaves and cooler days.
