Comedones aka: BLACKHEADS

We’ve ALL had blackheads from time to time. We all wish this stubborn, annoying part of life just disappeared. FOREVER! Admit it; you have done some crazy things to get rid of them. So, let’s go over some of the basics. (Pause that blackhead removal video for a few seconds and read below.)

What are Blackheads?

Blackheads are hair follicles filled with dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum (oil).

Why are they black?

The sebum in the pore contains melanin. When the sebum reaches the pore’s surface, air exposure causes them to oxidize and turn dark.

What causes blackheads?

An over-production of oil causes them.

Do nose (pore) strips work?

They temporarily remove blackheads but won’t prevent them from returning. Over-using them strips the skin of natural oils, causes irritation and can even lead to broken capillaries. The nose strips also can stretch the pores, causing more buildup, and noticeable blackheads!

Does frequent washing prevent them?

Cleansing more often than necessary dries out and irritates the skin causing an over-production of oil and more blackheads. Cleansing morning and evening helps remove impurities accumulating. This is the most important method of preventing and minimizing blackheads.

Keeping your skin clean and well balanced is the key to minimizing blackheads. So see us or book a facial and learn about the three-step plan to effectively reduce the appearance of pores. We are here to help you achieve the flawless skin you’ve always wanted.
